On a recent grey and windy February Sunday in London, Carly delivered a four‑hour bespoke sustainability session to the Assistant Location Manager Training (ALMT) cohort — a respected industry programme designed to develop the next generation of Location Managers across UK film and HETV.

Helmed by Harriet Lawrence (one of the UK’s leading Location Managers, recognised for her extensive industry experience and her active roles within BECTU and the Production Guild of Great Britain) and Lottie Mason (senior Location Manager working across UK and International blockbusters and top tier HETV).
The course is structured to invite guest lecturers and involves practical development for Assistant Location Managers already working in the field. These are not entry‑level trainees; the cohort consists of professionals with on‑set and on‑location experience, making the workshop intentionally tailored to their existing knowledge and responsibilities.
The afternoon focused on the core sustainability challenges and decisions Location Managers face daily, including:
With a strong emphasis on BAFTA albert principles, Carly led the group through practical exercises, case studies, and scenario‑based discussions designed to connect sustainability with real production pressures and workflows.

The session also featured a guest presentation from Joshua Toner (Sunbelt Rentals), who walked the cohort through the latest and emerging technologies in green energy, including fuel, battery systems, EMS, and solar solutions-giving the ALMs a clear view of what’s possible on today’s sets.
In keeping with her belief in offering mentoring and training opportunities, Carly also invited Georgia Newton, a recent graduate currently looking to build her sustainability career in the creative sector. Georgia presented her research into BAFTA albert‑certified waste companies, comparing services, offerings, and policy commitments to help the cohort understand the current landscape.

A huge thank you to Harriet, Lottie, the entire ALMT cohort for an engaging and thoughtful afternoon. And to Josh and Georgia for their insights, expertise, and research.
