Based in Italy’s Conero Natural Park, the Conero Film + ADV Festival ran 4–7 September 2025. In its third year, the event paired a closed Creative Retreat with a public Film Festival & Awards, spotlighting short‑form works, from fashion films to branded content , all created with purpose and aligned to sustainability.
I arrived at the creative retreat intrigued, a little apprehensive about solo camping and not knowing anyone, but curious to see what this festival was all about. Tent and supplies provided, I settled into the stunning countryside and let the experience unfold. Any nerves quickly disappeared as I was welcomed by friendly, like‑minded professionals from across the globe.
An incredible dinner at the main house (my hub for the next three nights) set the tone. Judges, directors, producers, festival staff, neighbours, and locals blended together seamlessly. What struck me most was the absence of ego; conversations felt open, genuine, and collaborative.
Sustainability at the Core
Sustainability wasn’t just a theme, it was embedded in every detail. My congratulations to Local Bizzarro, who worked tirelessly to make it happen.
Highlights included:
All programmes printed with and on sustainable materials
Natural compostable toilet facilities (surprisingly not as daunting as they sound!)
Battery power for event lighting and supplies
Vegetarian and vegan catering
Endless water supply, with no plastic bottles in sight
Importantly, the awards themselves were framed around sustainability, with categories spanning social, environmental, and creative sustainability. This meant projects were recognised not only for their artistry, but for how they embodied responsibility and innovation in practice.

Connections Beyond Networking
We were treated to a yacht trip in small groups - a chance to bond, laugh, and relax in breathtaking surroundings. This wasn’t networking in the traditional sense (no business cards), just real conversations and lasting connections.
Awards & Panels

The awards ceremony was held in yet another stunning location: the Lazzaretto of Ancona, an 18th‑century pentagon‑shaped building surrounded by the port.
Welcomed into this dreamy setting, the awards were preceded by panels that added depth and influence to the evening. Stand‑out sessions included:
Sea Shepherd Global and their powerful Ghost Net film content
Marbelle of Directors Notes curating a Q&A with shortlisted filmmakers
Jason Stone of David Review leading a panel with judges, sparking lively discussion around Are Creative Agencies Still Fit for Purpose?
The film entries and winners showcased fresh talent, emerging voices and early‑career filmmakers with bold ideas, unafraid of low‑budget constraints. It was clear this festival is unlike any of the mainstream industry ones I have previously attended.
A Unique Experience

The Conero Film + Adv Festival was led by a passionate team who created an energy and space I’ve never encountered in decades of awards festivals. I met people I’ll be collaborating with, learning from, and cheering on.
I went in curious, and I came out recharged.
